In 2015, Irving Shipbuilding Inc. experienced a year of significant change and remarkable progress.
Not only did we complete construction on Halifax Shipyard’s new $350 million state-of-the-art facility, we are well underway building the first of six Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) for the Royal Canadian Navy.
“Over 300 workers were recalled and more than 260 new employees were hired”
These Canadian-built ships are the next generation in ocean exploration and border protection.
We are on time and on schedule.
Halifax Shipyard is now the most modern shipyard in North America. The Halifax yard, and our new Marine Fabricators facility across the harbour in Dartmouth, are producing and delivering the highest quality products.
These new facilities are the best in the shipbuilding business.
The economic impact of these projects is already creating positive momentum in numerous industries from coast-to-coast-to-coast.
More than 1,000 companies large and small across Canada have registered to work with us, resulting in over $1 billion in Canadian-owned awarded contracts.
This year, we also made a significant investment in the development of our workforce. Over 300 workers were recalled and more than 260 new employees were hired. Each new employee is trained through our comprehensive skills enhancement program to ensure they have the best skills for the job.
Through all of this, we continued to stay focused on our existing partnership with the Navy by maintaining and modernizing the Halifax Class Frigates and delivering both HMCS St Johns and HMCS Ville De Quebec back to the men and women who serve in top condition.
It has required tremendous hard work, ingenuity and collaboration to get us where we are today. We are proud of our incredible team and honoured to have earned the opportunity to build and deliver the future of Canada’s Navy.
We are excited to continue this progress into 2016 and beyond.
