Inclusion & Belonging
Irving Shipbuilding offers a home for people of all racial, sexual, gender, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds, and nations of origin.
Irving Shipbuilding is a family-run business, and our people are part of that family. That’s why we foster an inclusive, accepting environment where people from all backgrounds come together to form bonds, be it teamwork or friendship. We want to build relationships that are as dependable and long-lasting as the ships we make.
Irving Shipbuilding offers a home for people of all racial, sexual, gender, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds, and nations of origin.
Halifax is one of the most remarkable communities on Earth, and we consider it a privilege to live and work here. That’s why we’re committed to Halifax and giving back. Building ships for Canada also means that we support a wide variety of initiatives that make life better across the country. Halifax supports us, and we’re dedicated to giving back to the place we call home.
As shipbuilders, we’re intuitively aware of the state of the world’s oceans and waterways and factors impacting our environment. That’s why we are committed to research and conservation, innovations to preserve and safeguard clean water and protecting marine habitats. We are part of the Green Marine initiative to reduce our footprint on air, land and water. Together we can make a difference.
As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, Irving Shipbuilding has Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) which are voluntary, employee-led groups dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion at work and in the community.
Through our ERGs, we work with 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous, BIPOC and Women’s groups to build a culture of respect and support.
ERGs create an open forum for employees who share a common identity to meet and support one another in building our community & sense of belonging while advancing our business priorities.
Irving Shipbuilding is active year-round in providing support for Halifax communities.
ISI initiatives and staff-created programs support food banks, toy drives for under-privileged children, education providers, community garden initiatives and other worthy causes in and around Halifax.
We’re committed to supporting causes that matter to our employees and our community.
As part of our focus on contributing to a cleaner environment, we are committed to marine conservation, innovations to preserve and safeguard clean water and protecting marine habitats.
We’ve come to rely on renewable energy and reducing our use of plastics. We are proud of our efforts, working with First Nations, to track endangered Atlantic Salmon and continuing to lead and develop procedures that prioritize the needs of marine animals and their environments.
