Are you interested in becoming a welder, pipefitter, or metal fabricator? Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (ISI) is partnering with Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) to provide a customized training program that will invest in the future of Canada’s marine industry and the skilled tradespeople who build it.

About the Program

This customized training program provides free tuition.

Irving Shipbuilding will cover the costs of all aspects of the training for 80 students across four programs in total for the two-year initiative.

This includes instruction, facilities, texts, tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), classroom supplies, student fees, parking and student services.

Students will apply through ISI and be enrolled by NSCC. Program participants will have access to the same supports provided to that NSCC students, while adhering to all NSCC policies.

Graduates who meet ISI's minimum requirements will be considered for employment.

  2. Include a Cover Letter outlining interest in this Initiative
  3. Include proof of highest level of education obtained (Example - High School Transcript, College Diploma, University Degree)
  4. Complete the Application Questionnaire

Eligibility

  • All successful applicants must meet NSCC admission requirements, including English language proficiency, where applicable.
  • Those who meet NSCC requirements will be subject to ISI security and human resource screening.
  • All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which includes consenting to a security assessment and undergoing a criminal record check.
  • All applications will be reviewed by one of our recruiters. If the recruiter sees a potential opportunity (current or future) that matches your skills and experience, you will be contacted to discuss your qualifications for Irving Shipbuilding Marine Trades Initiative.
