Meet Jenna MacDonald, Talent Acquisition Business Partner

Jenna MacDonald feels fortunate to be growing her career in Halifax, the city where she was born and raised, and in her role as Talent Acquisition Business Partner, she looks forward to giving future candidates the same opportunity.

Jenna joined Irving Shipbuilding in 2017 as an Executive Assistant, becoming a Communications Specialist in 2018. In 2019 she took on a new opportunity as Talent Acquisition Specialist and determined that Human Resources (HR) was the career path for her. “Since I went to Mount Saint Vincent University for a Bachelor of Public Relations and not anything HR focused, once I determined that a career in HR was the right path for me, I wanted to ensure I had the educational background to support this,” says Jenna. “The company supported me in taking the Human Resources Management Certificate part time through Fleming College, which I just completed this past spring! The HR Management Certificate provided me with knowledge and insight into a variety of HR functions.”

Wanting to apply her learnings to a broader Human Resources role, Jenna took a new opportunity within the Irving Shipbuilding Division at Fleetway Inc., as a Human Resources Business Partner in 2020. After working in this role for over a year Jenna realized her love of recruitment. “I love having the opportunity to build relationships with candidates and knowing that our team had a part in helping someone start their career or continue their career alongside our world-class team of shipbuilders,” says Jenna. “There is no better feeling than being able to let someone know they will be receiving a job offer and getting to share in that excitement with them!” In June of this year Jenna returned to the Irving Shipbuilding HR team as a Talent Acquisition Business Partner. Jenna works with the team to ensure we are using the best-in-class methods to source and select the most qualified candidates for our current job openings.

Since her return to Halifax Shipyard in June, Jenna has filled 80 roles with new team members! She is involved in both trades and staff hiring and currently has over 90 positions that she is working on! “Ships for Canada is a generational opportunity. I am proud to be part of it and welcome new team members who can grow their entire career here,” says Jenna.
