How do we energize citizens to collect meaningful ocean data?

Pacific salmon populations in the Salish Sea have experienced a general population decline in the past few decades. To assist fisheries managers in the region, Dr. Costa and her team will use new ocean technologies to gather environmental data with sufficient time and improved spatial resolution to develop improved forecast models. The team will use a variety of channels to collect data including satellites, tablets and sensors on ships of opportunity (e.g. ferries), citizens (e.g. fishermen and ferry passengers) and research cruises.
