Our Stories

Black Lives Matter

Black History Month is a time to reflect, engage, and learn more about the contributions of Black individuals and communities.

Irving Shipbuilding and Unifor are committed to ensuring that every member of our shipbuilding family has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in an environment where Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect, are values we practice at work every day.

We appreciate the early efforts of the United BIPOC employee resource group, the contributions of African Nova Scotian Pathways graduates, mentors, other Black employees, and our valued community partners who help accelerate understanding and change through respect and collaboration.

The Unifor Racial Justice Advocate Program, resulting from our new contract, is an important and positive step in 2023. Irving Shipbuilding and Unifor have zero tolerance for racism. We also know that there is more work to be done. Our success depends on each of our efforts - and willingness - to change.
