Coast to Coast to Coast Discovery
The Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response (MEOPAR) network recently awarded funding to nine new research projects—across six Canadian universities—that align with MEOPAR’s goal of strengthening Canada’s ability to anticipate marine risk.
This most recent round of funding was made possible in part by a $1 million contribution from Irving Shipbuilding Inc., which is pursuant to an existing Value Proposition obligation under the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.
The research projects will focus on developing and applying new technology or approaches to advance environmental observation, safe operations, and/or emergency response measures on Canada’s coasts and oceans.
From coast-to-coast-to-coast Canadians will benefit not just from the research gathered and preventative measures implemented, but from the economic growth these projects will foster as well. MEOPAR supports interdisciplinary research and fosters dialogue and collaboration between academia and other sectors and trains the next generation of marine risk problem solvers.
